Nourishing Young Lives: A Commitment to Global Orphan Relief

Meet Moses Okasa, a compassionate 65-year-old farmer from Kakamega, is devoted to making a difference in the lives of orphans. Moses, an active member of St. Peter’s ACK Parish in Ebuchiti, Kenya, is not only a cultivator of cereals and bananas but also a caretaker of cattle. For Moses, supporting orphans is not just a duty; it's a moral calling.

"As believers, our heavenly God calls us to serve humanity by assisting the orphans and widows," Moses expressed with conviction.

His journey of supporting the less privileged began in Mombasa, where he distributed loaves of bread and sugar to widows and those in need during the Christmas festivities.

The turning point came during the Great Commandment Workshop in Kakamega in May 2023. The workshop reignited Moses's passion for charitable work, inspiring him to shift his focus directly to supporting orphans. Unaware of the local children's homes which provided a challenge to locate these institutions within his community, Moses embarked on a quest to find and support them.

Financial constraints posed another hurdle for Moses, limiting his ability to provide consistent support. Despite these challenges, he persists in sharing the little he harvests or earns with the orphans, determined to make a meaningful impact in their lives.

In line with his commitment at the Great Commandment Workshop, Moses donated a sack of maize and a bucket of sorghum to the Kenya Quilts for Empowerment Children's Home on August 16, 2023. Additionally, he personally delivered loaves of bread to the children at the same home in early November, where 20 orphans are currently under the care of the organization.

Moses, an advocate for compassionate giving, encourages fellow Christians, stating, "We must ask our heavenly father to lead us on the way to support the orphans and open your ways to be able to assist. You can help with anything. You don’t need much to help an orphan."

Join Moses in his mission to nourish young lives through your support. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant impact on the well-being of these vulnerable children. Together, let's uphold the spirit of generosity and kindness towards orphans around the world.

Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work to date through local partners in each country that provides oversight and distribution of care through three care initiatives; Home-Based Care, Education, and Nutrition, In 2022, we launched our Church Mobilization Initiative where we are mobiizing the local church to care for orphan children. Last month, we impacted 13,860 children in Asia (unnamed country), Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia within these four initiatives.

Beyond the financial commitment of the workshops, this effort is to be indigenous, self-propagating, and self-supporting.  Our objective is to engage local churches to expand our GO! network, mobilize the church body to serve orphaned children, and to advance the Kingdom through demonstrating the Gospel to others. Through these workshops we are:

Church Mobilization is our newest initiative launched in February 2022.  We are currently working with local area churches to co-host Great Commandment Workshops where we bring together multiple subject matter experts to discuss the why and how to serve the poor generally, and orphan children specifically.  We track the impact of children served through this effort to justify continued investment.

We have co-hosted and facilitated twenty-two workshops in Asia, Kenya, and Zambia that have hosted a total of 4,032 ministry leaders. At the conclusion of these workshops, we have been honored to commission 2,638 GO! Ambassadors. GO! Ambassadors are those who have received the call to serve orphan children in their communities during these one-day workshops and make a commitment to serve children in their community. In November, this GO! Ambassador Network served 13,226 orphan children.
